Metabolic diets
A diet tracker for PKU and every metabolic diet
Phebe was built by a PKU family. It counts all 18 amino acids, protein, vitamins and minerals, so it works for every diet that limits protein or an amino acid, and for anyone who tracks a specific nutrient.
Your clinic sets your targets. Phebe does the counting.
- PKUPhenylketonuriaPhe and tyrosine in milligrams, meal by meal.
- MSUDMaple syrup urine diseaseLeucine, isoleucine and valine, each with its own target.
- TyrosinemiaTyrosine and phe together, since the body makes one from the other.
- HomocystinuriaClassical homocystinuria (CBS deficiency)Methionine in milligrams, with protein and cystine beside it.
- Urea cycle disordersProtein gram by gram, with every amino acid on hand.
- Organic acidemiasPropionic, methylmalonic and isovaleric acidemiaIsoleucine, valine, methionine and threonine, or leucine for IVA.
- Glutaric acidemia type 1Lysine and tryptophan in milligrams.
- Any nutrient you countProtein, sodium, iron, fiber, vitamin D: your nutrients, your targets.
Any nutrient you count
Every nutrient on the label has its own daily target: each amino acid in milligrams, protein in grams, and sodium, iron, fiber, vitamin D and the rest. Show the ones you count and hide the rest, so Today reads like it was built for you.
That covers any low-protein diet, protein for training, and any nutrient your doctor or dietitian asks you to watch.
How Phebe counts
- Search the food database, scan a barcode, or photograph a nutrition label.
- Weigh a portion on a Bluetooth kitchen scale, and the grams go straight into the entry.
- Set a daily target for each nutrient you count, and see what is left today.
- Log favorites in one tap, and build a recipe once to log the dish.
- Start on your phone with no account. A free account adds the web app at app.phebe.life.
Questions
- What is Phebe?
- Phebe is a free diet tracker built by a PKU family, for PKU, every metabolic diet, and anyone who tracks a specific nutrient. It counts phe, protein and all 18 amino acids, plus calories, macros, minerals and vitamins, on iPhone, Android and the web.
- How do you say Phebe?
- FEE-bee, like Phoebe. The name holds phe, short for phenylalanine, the amino acid people with PKU count.
- Which conditions does Phebe work for?
- PKU first, and every diet that limits protein or an amino acid: hyperphenylalaninemia, MSUD (maple syrup urine disease), tyrosinemia, homocystinuria, urea cycle disorders, propionic, methylmalonic and isovaleric acidemia, glutaric acidemia type 1, and any low-protein diet.
- Can I use Phebe without a metabolic condition?
- Yes. Choose the nutrients you care about, such as protein, sodium, iron or fiber, and set your own daily target for each.
- Is Phebe free?
- Yes. Phebe is free on iPhone, Android and the web, with no ads and no paywall.
- Where do the amino acid numbers come from?
- From USDA food analyses, for every food that has been measured. For a packaged food whose label lists only protein, Phebe estimates all 18 amino acids from the label and its ingredients, and shows the range.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Everything works on your phone without one. A free account backs up your diary and opens it on the web at app.phebe.life.
- Who makes Phebe?
- A PKU family in North Carolina.
